Beyond the Solo - workshop by Mete Erker

Mete Erker is a saxophone player of Dutch and Turkish descent. He is renowned for his rich, warm sound, strong drive, and his very personal and lyrical way of playing. Throughout his career, he has been involved in important projects and ensembles such as the Artvark Saxophone Quartet, the improvisation collective Estafest, and The Mete Erker Trio, establishing himself as a versatile voice within the Dutch jazz and improvised music scene.

In this workshop, Mete Erker will explore questions such as: How can you, as a solo instrument, define your role within an ensemble? How can you move between being a soloist and an accompanist? Participants will work on creating textures, special effects, sound colours, and atmospheric soundscapes that support and inspire the lead voice. The workshop will also focus on listening, interaction, and understanding song structure as tools for stronger and more dynamic ensemble playing.
